REACH

The importance of REACH is well known within the Insulcon organization. Therefore we would like to update you on this issue as well as on the implementation of this regulation within the Insulcon Group.

The REACH regulation is an ongoing process. In December 2009, the European members decided as part of this ongoing process, to place 14 additional chemical substances on the so called candidate list.

This decision was enforced by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) on January 13th, 2010. The current ‘candidate list’ also contains alumina silica wool (Al-Si-RCF and Al-Zr-Si-RCF) based on the existing classification “category 2 carcinogenic “ according to Annex I of directive 67/548/EC. The candidate list will continue to grow as part of the REACH process.

This does not mean that the use of alumina silica wool is forbidden or is subject to certain restrictions. This only means that the products are being investigated, which in the case of ceramic fibres has been done for quite a while. Whether the product needs authorisation or not is being investigated.

Following article 33 of the REACH regulation, we would like to inform you that some of our RCF products may contain above mentioned substances. Please note that at this point, there are no new scientific or health findings, no changes in the classification of RCF nor in industry’s recommendations on safe handling and use.
